The RAF Air Cadets is a UK wide youth organisation open to anyone aged 12 to 20 years who is looking for activity, adventure, new challenges and a chance to gain valuable life skills. An interest in aviation is beneficial but not essential, and you don't have to be thinking about a career in the military either - we offer something for everyone!
Like the all other RAFAC units, 1244 Squadron has been closed for face-to-face activity since March 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but virtual learning and activities have been continuing for our cadets online.
During this period of closure, an organisation-wide review of unit sustainability was undertaken and it was decided that 1244 Squadron (formally known as Swindon & District) would be amalgamated with nearby 633 Squadron of West Swindon, under the new designation 1244 (Swindon) Squadron.
As part of the amalgamation we have decided to re-brand and start afresh with our website and social media. Unfortunately, since we are still not able to undertake face-to-face activity, there is not a lot of recent content we can put on here to demonstrate what our cadets have been up to! We also don't yet know what nights we will be parading when we do return to face-to-face activity as this will depend on cadet numbers and ongoing COVID restrictions. In the meantime, see the 1244 and 633 Squadron 'pre-amalgamation' social media feeds below for an idea of the activity we have managed recently...
From an administrative point of view, the squadron is still active and the staff are still contactable. We are also looking at starting the recruitment process very soon for all those that have been patiently waiting to join us over the last 12 months or so.
